Bangkok Chapter 4 (Palladium Market to Khaosan Road)

10th April 2017: After a short rest from our journey to kanchanaburi, I showered and changed to a dress. We went out that night to Palladium Mall. My original plan was to have dinner in MBK Center (Yana Halal Restaurant at foodcourt) and then walk around Khaosan Road for nightlife. But Sha suggested we go to Paladium Night Market which is around the Paladium Mall,so we followed her plan. TIPS: Palladium Mall is in Pratunam 2 area, not 1 but 2. Pratunam 1 is located farther than that, weird.

We took taxi to Palladium, cost us around 150THB per taxi. The mall was almost closed at that time but the night market surround it was still alive. I thought there will be halal restaurants here, but turns out there are none. So, Ija looked around in google and found ‘Arab Street’ about 20minutes walk from there. So we decided to go with it.

20 minutes was quite a walk ya know, especially after a whole day ‘barbequed’ in the TukTuk at Kanchanaburi. My waist hurt, Bella couldn't even breathe well cos she has asthma and we were all tired. But we kept walking. If it was up to me, I would just eat at any restaurants available.

Neon Downtown

Along the way, there is one place that attracts me the most, the Talad downtown. They have neon lights, even the word NEON glittered at night. Lots of Thai hangout here at night. TIPS: Talad Neon Market is a Night Market in Pratunam area, close to Platinum Shopping Mall. It is decorated with shipping containers and stalls selling a variety of fashion, homeware and other trinkets. Besides the flea market, food and drinks stalls is also available here. It opens Thursday to Sunday, from 5PM to 12AM.

Chidlom

That road then leads us to Central Chidlom, passing by some elite apartments in Bangkok. Finally we arrived at Nana Street or also known as Arab town Bangkok. TIPS: Fancy Arabian food or halal foodie?  Nana Street is the place for you to dwell into!

Nana Steet, Liitle Arab

Lots of stalls along the road, selling stuff from food to clothes. The majority of people here are mideastern, for sure. We had our dinner at a restaurant called Thai Restaurant and Seafood. Almost all of the restaurants here served Arab food and we wanted Thai, so we went with this one. This is basically one of the few options we had.

The restaurant we had lunch

seafood tomyam I had

I had tomyam and rice, while Aman really uses that baht for food, hiks. The tomyam was quite good altho I found it a bit pricey. TIPS: The service is slow, unfriendly (like no smile at all) and overpriced, not recommended.

fruits stalls!

After dinner, we walked along the street feasting our eyes. You can find Shisha everywhere here, filled with smoke!. There is also henna shop, Muslims clothing stores, fortune teller and tones of Kebab stalls. TIPS: Souvenir wise? not the place.

with Bella the lifestyle blogger

We decided to go back to the Palladium market afterwards. We took a taxi cos we don’t have the energy anymore to walk, hihi. Me, Jenny, Sha and Dania reached first, but no sign of Bella and the rest. It was weird, cos it is not that far from Nana street. After 10 minutes of waiting, Jenny decided to go walk around the market first as it was almost 12AM. TIPS: Palladium night market open daily from 6PM o 11PM. It sells souvenirs and clothes mostly at a good price compared to the rest of the place. Most of the items are in fixed price, but no harm in bargaining!.

while waiting for the rest

Sha was so sad cos she cant find the custom made passport holder store as they closed early. Lucky for her, I found one on the left side of the market and brought her there, aiyaiyai how happy she was that time.

Jenny and I bought souvenirs at a stall that already starting to pack things up. It was quite frustrating you know cos we didn’t had the time to check around and choose more. But yes I bought the small pouches as gifts for my colleagues. After a while, I saw Aman’s head from far, hiks. Their taxi driver actually drove them to Pratunam 1!. So they have to make a huge u-turn back using Ija’s Waze, like waddaf!. See I told u better said Pratunam 2!.

Palladium Night market

Well at least they arrived safely and not dumped somewhere in the middle of Bangkok!. TIPS: Make sure u write the place down preferable in Thai bcos our pronunciation might sound different to them as most of em don’t speak or understand English well.

What made me happy was I managed to buy 3 pieces of sleeveless tops here at Palladium. It was cheap, 100THB each and it is comfortable!. I wear it with cardigan to work, brilliant!. On top of that, I bought 2 pieces of fancy printed shorts that I know Syl will love, hihihi (gotta make ur man happy as well!). I bought 1 as a gift for Sarah’s birthday as well! (No Sarah, I did not forget chuu! <3).

Miss Sherry wanted to have a good massage but it was already 1AM that time. So, I suggested we go to Khaosan Road as the place lit up until 4AM every day!. Hence, taxi to Khaosan it is. The taxi fare from Palladium to Khaosan was 150THB as they refused to use meter, late night they said. The distance is around 10 - 15 minutes drive.

Khaosan is a crazy crazy party street. The moment u stepped in, you can see people partying on the street!, not in the club anymore, but in the street. Along the road is clubs, restaurant & bar, massage houses and stores selling souvenirs. Not to forget, creepy and non creepy food. By creepy i mean fried spiders, scorpions and stuff. Non creepy is burger, kebabs, sticky rice etc. TIPS: They will charge you 10THB if you take a picture of the creepy food, yes.

creepy exotic food

There is this 3 storeys massage house in the center of Khaosan road. They provide foot massage in the ground floor. The massage chair were placed along the road as well cos there were so many people. Apart from that, they also sell beer bucket. You literally drink beer from the bucket. Having said that, you can imagine how drunk those guys in Khaosan were. One guy came to me and touch my face with his filthy hand, saying 'te amo!'. Like get dafuq away from me. He came back after 5 minutes and hold my waist saying 'ciao bella!'. Grrr...

Khaosan Road

The clubs were 'jumpin' jumpin' all night. People were jumpin & dancin in the middle of the street. I literally have to shout to talk to Ija bcos the music was so loud. On top of all the fun chaotic stuff, they also sell laughing gas. Yes, u heard me right, the gas that made you laugh and happy for no reason. Its drugs basically and banned in some countries, but not in Khaosan. I am not sure how much they sell it for, but looking at the crowd that night, im pretty sure they made lotta money out of it. TIPS: If you are into all night partying and beer drinking, Khaosan is the place. They have several hostels along the street as well. Taxis are everywhere dropping and picking drunk passengers, so dont worry if u cant drive. But be sure you will be charged a lot, hahaha. My advise is, don't do the laughing gas, it's not safe.

We leave the booming Khaosan and headed to Patpong in Silom. Why? Because Sherry and Jenny decided to not do the massage in Khaosan as it was too hectic. But sadly when we reached the massage house we went to the first night, they were already closed. Its kinda sad yes, cos i was thinking to have a good foot massage as well.

We took a taxi back to Kokotel Surawong around 2AM. Had a nice glass of juices at the restaurant in the lobby while raping the wifi, hiks. Then off to bed!.

The morning of 11th June 2017, i got up and packed my bags around 8AM. Our flight back to KL was at 1PM. We took the taxi to Don Mueang Airport, costs us around 200THB per taxi, exclusive of highway tolls of course. Everything was so rushed, i wish i had few more days in Bangkok, but reality wanted me to wake up!, hihi,

bye Kokotel, I'll missed you!

last wefie in Bangkok

At the checked-in baggage counter, my bracelets fell off my wrists and drop to the floor. It was given to me by Syl. The beads were everywhere. I managed to collect almost all of them with the help of Sherry and Ija. But still loses 6 beads. I was sad yes as i was having a small arguement with him at that time. Then this happened, like a sign you know. I told Syl bout it and he said 'it's okay, we will buy a new one here'. Je taime Syl!.

Bangmad: Don Mueang

We had our brunch at Bangmad restaurant in the airport after we dropped our baggage. TIPS: Bangmad is the only halal restaurant in Don Mueang Airport. It is located near Subway. They serve ready made rice and cakes, also hot drinks.

Goodbye Bangkok!

Our flight departed at 1.30PM, slight delay and i dont know why. We reached KLIA2 at 4.30PM, yeay!. I do hope I can repeat my trip to Bangkok, take more time and explore the city more!.
