Perth & WA Chapter 5 (It's Perth City!)

Good Morning Perth!!

Click here to read bout our journey from Cervantes to Perth City :)

What a wonderful morning that day 5th October 2016. Today we are gonna explore the city of Perth itself. We headed into the city, to London Court to be exact. From our hostel, the Hive, we decided to just walk as the weather is good, not too windy not too hot, around 20-25'c purrrfect!.

well morning Perth!

Into the city we go honey!

We walked via James St and Beaufort St to go to city center. We passed by this place called the Forrest Place with some green figurine. There were lots of corporate people walking around, gathering, holding some numbers. Honestly, it looks like wall street. I really dont know what they were doing, if u know u can tell me! :).

Forrest Place

As we walked, we saw CAT bus several times, like hop on hop off, no need to pay. I did have the CAT bus routes in my phone saved prior coming to Perth. We like to walk that morning however. TIPS: Perth have their own CAT bus which is free btw. You can take the bus if you dont feels like walking. There are several colors such as Blue,Red representing the lines. Don't confuse it with Transperth that is green in color as this one have fares. You may check the CAT bus schedules and route here! http://www.perthortho.com.au/resources/Perth_CAT_Map_2012.pdf

We found ourselves in a mall after passing through the 'people with suits', hihihi. The whole area is known as Forrest Place and actually some call it Forrest Chase, including the mall surround it with a water fountain in the middle. We walked to the center of it and voilla, an open air area with some benches. From far we saw 7Eleven on the left! yeay this means coffeeeee.

Forrest Chase!

As usual we bought coffee and some bread for 3AUD. Sat on the bench and just enjoy it :D . It was drizzling a bit for 5 minutes. So we decided to go into the mall first. There is a lot of famous boutiques in here, and not just some Australian brands. The mall is also known as MYER.

On the bench enjoyin our coffee

The dresses is kinda pretty as well, but i don't have the budget to buy any, but if i know, ill bring some more as they are pretty!. Sarah tried some dresses but sadly the sizes they have doesn't match her. The one that match is not in good condition and the staff tried to find a new one but there isn't any. Just not her luck i guess. We walked into this one very affordable boutique and they were having some sale, i cant remember the name aiyaiyaiii. They sell makeups as well here, hats, shirts, pants all in good price.

in the mall with mon amour :D

Syl was very eager to have me wear a round floral hat, so i did and he was happy hahaha. Seriously if i have extra AUD cash, ill buy some of the garments here. TIPS: Wanna buy some garments or do some shopping, come to Forrest Chase and explore the boutiques here!.

U saw this clock, this is the London Court, oui!

I don't even see any London Court sign yet here at first but as we walked along the open air area passed by Zara, i finally saw it!. It wasn't in Here apps u know, weird. London Court is a narrow alley filled with cafes and souvenir shops. It looks like some places in Europe and not Australia. The prices over here is a bit expensive but if you wanna hangout for some coffee and chill, you can choose this place yes.

The London Court souvenirs

Me walking with no direction here, lol

Our next plan is to visit the St. Georges Cathedral. But when i went to 7eleven earlier i saw a souvenir shop. My colleague wanted me to buy her a cap with kangaroo on it, haha. So yes, i figured i can check there as the shops in London Court is quite expensive.

City Gifs & Souvenirs

So we went there first, Sarah decided to just smoke outside waiting for us. Me and Syl went in. My oh my this place is much more cheaper than Fremantle!. So much choices, so many varieties. Previously in Fremantle i wanna buy the glass place mats with Australian Aborigines arts on it, but it was expensive. In this shop, its just 4-5 AUD for 6 placemats, same designed. I was so glad i came to this souvenir shop. TIPS: For cheap souvenir in Perth, come to City Gifts and Souvenirs located in Barrack St near the Forrest Place!.  It's worth it, trust me.

more fancy souvenirs

I even found the cap my colleague wanted, i also bought some souvenir for my housemate and a multi purpose bag that u can zip to make it small. It's just 5 AUD and i want it for groceries shopping at wet market in Malaysia. No more plastic bags yall, for the environment!

found the glass place mats!

With that, we made our way to St. Georges Cathedral which located near the Forrest Place as well (see thats why we prefer to walk,:P ). As it is still a functioning church, you can enter it without any fee. But respect the place of course.

St. Georges Cathedral

The cathedral was built around 1888 with local and imported materials. It is an Anglican church with Gothic revival architecture. I really like the windows, it is so unique. I took a picture of the window and this one lady came to me and said 'it's pretty isn't it the window'. hihi, super friendly people.

'it's pretty isn't it the window'

inside the Cathedral

We then leave the Cathedral and head to The Bell Tower. TIPS: From the Cathedral to city hall, Elizabeth Quay and Bell Tower, you just need to walk along the Barrack St. Everything is located very near to each other. At bus stops and some intersections, they have maps so u can always refer to it.

the maps, one way straight to the Quay

We stop first to have some rest at Stirling Gardens. They have steel kangaroos here, hahahaha. It's a nice place to stop and catch a breath as the park is also very green and pleasant to look at. Lots of flowers as well, blooming time.

Je Taime! (i really like the way he looks without his glasses, hihi :P )

heyya steel kangaroos, we saw some roos at caversham, ur cousin? :P

Hey yall come sit here with us!

We walk via the park, passed by the Supreme Court Perth and the Government House. We didn't stop there, but if you are interested, do visit the Government House. It is the resident of the Governor of Western Australia and the entrance is free. It was built between 1859 and 1864, in the Jacobean Revival style.
The Supreme Court

more flowers as we walked, spring it is!

From far as we were walking via the Supreme Court Garden, we already saw the Bell Tower. Some guys were even playing rugby here, hiks. To cross the roads here to the Bell tower is quite challenging, haha.

big hair on the park :D
panoramic!

The Bell Tower includes the twelve bells of St Martin in the Fields, which are recorded as being in existence from before the 14th century. The bells were originally from London, not Australia. TIPS: The bells will ring only 3 days a week which are Monday, Thursday and Sunday between 12-1 PM. So if you are here around this time, stay for it!.

crossing the road to the Bell Tower

Oh hi there! Ur tall ay?

We were there on Wednesday, so no bells for us. You can take the tour upstairs with a fee. Its around 9AUD for general entry. We didn't take the tour, but the ground floor is free to access :) . They showed some photos and sells some souvenirs. I got a postcard for myself, its nice. Its a map of Australia with map of others countries fit into it with 'Australia is a BIG country' written. I like it :P .

the entrance to the Bell Tower

Postcards!

The bridge, well small bridge near the bell tower have this love lock trends. You can actually buy the lock from them and lock it at the bridge. I am not that cliche and better buy food with that money, hihihi lol. But hey if you are sentimental, go for it :).

Love Locks <3

When we were there, there was some exhibition about Gandhi called Borderless Gandhi going on in front of the Bell Tower, in between the Barrack Street Jetty. It was an art show as well that also features some wise words from Gandhi. There was this lil girl who painted some murals on canvas, talented. But when i went near her and look at it, she looked at me with this 'who are you and what do u want' looks. hahaha funny.

some of the words from Gandhi written on the board as we walked

'This is my drawing, u stay away!' :P

From there we made our way to the Elizabeth Quay, the famous bridge we always see when we googled 'Perth'. It was around few minutes walk only from the Barrack Street jetty. The view of the Swan river from here is soo pretty. TIPS: To get a beautiful picture of Swan River, come to Elizabeth Quay. There is also cruises tour if you are interested!.

The view of Perth City on the other side

The 20-metre high suspension bridge is open to pedestrians and cyclists and is an iconic architectural feature of the quay. As we walked, we can see that side of Swan River. Such an amazing view!. Swan river is very big yes. We sit at a bench here, just looking at the river. I saw the cruises ferry & boats to South Perth coming out from harbour pass by below the bridge. I wonder how much is the price of the cruise, haha. TIPS: The harbour here also collect passenger to Rottnest Island, so if you dont plan to go to Fremantle, u can also take a cruise from here!

all aboard!

We walked across the bridge, lots of people tho and the wind was strong. Perth metro city from this point looks fabulous. The sky was soo blue combining with the color of the Swan River, magnificent! The train and bus station is also not far from here, u can actually see it. From the bridge, there is a path for bicycles, so if you plan to do some cycling around the city, u can do it from here all the way to Kings Park and beyond. That is our next destination, Kings Park & Botanic Garden.

Magnificent!

I wanted to take the 935 (Transperth) bus to Kings Park but Syl said we can just walked using the bicycle lane and some stairs to the park. It was based on the map we have. Bcos if we want to take the bus, we need to turn back to St. Georges Terrace near the Perth Town Hall and Cathedral. So we followed Syl decision to walk there from Elizabeth Quay suspension bridge. TIPS: You can check the available bus routes from transperth.com.au :) , it'll help u make a decision!

So how was the walk & the infamous Kings Park?. well you gotta watch out for my next & last entry on Perth & Western Australia for that!
