Lombok Chapter 4 (South Lombok)

What a great day 3 we had!

Day 4: Morning of 4th September 2015, it was a good sunny day. We had our breakfast as usual on the beach. Ibu Yuka cooked us some gado gado that morning. It was some sort of Indonesian cuisine. Quite different from the one we have in Malaysia.

Pak Juaini waited for us in the lobby around 7.30AM. We hopped on the van and off we go. Our destination today is South Lombok & Sasak Tour! :) . What is Sasak? well honey u gotta read this entry to find out ;P .

It was around 2 hour drive thru the highway and then some narrow ways in villages, we arrived at kampung tenun Sukerare. This village was known for its specialty in doing the weaving, by hand mostly. Pak Juaini said, if the girl in this village doesnt know how to weave, the father wont allow her to marry. lol, that's pretty harsh. Soo, if u wanna marry a boy from here, pls learn how to weave. hahahahaha.

Tenun Sukerare

We got into a gallery/fabrics store. There were few women in the front that was weaving, it looks easy cos they are experienced, but its not. They will start putting the fabrics on u and ask u to try their traditional clothes and stuff. TIPS: Don't panic, u dont have to buy it. But if it makes you uncomfortable, just smile and say 'no its okay'.

Colourful Us!

We were practically unaware that we are modelling their clothes, lol. Esp for Sha and Jijie, wow..the male crowds there gathered around them with full excitements.. hihihi.  These guys were so interested and starting taking pictures of us, with us, lol. It was a hilarious moment. The fabrics were colourful, so the pictures turned out nice. I guess they will put Jijie's pics in their shops.. :D .

How can they not fall in love, kikiki :P

i dont even know why he is holding a microphone

We take a look around the store, the fabrics are quite expensive to be honest, so if you really really really wanna buy a good weave fabrics, save some money. TIPS: i would still recommend you to ask the Supir for cheaper place, there were lots more esp in the town.

We didn't buy any, how cruel. But it was so expensive, so.. yeah. They also have some Indonesian 'songkok', and some others accessories made from wood like necklaces and stuff. You can buy it for souvenir, that was pretty much affordable. U can see the disappointed face when we didnt buy it, but hey, they literally put the clothes on us. We hop onto the van, and Pak Juaini drove us to our next destination.

We arrived at Kute area after another half an hour drive. Kute is famous for its beaches. The beaches of South Lombok. There are a few like Selong Belanak beach, Mawun beach, Seger beach, Tanjung Aan beach, Pink beach and so on. We only went to 2 beaches which is Selong Belanak & Mawun. TIPS: Mawun is a must, keep reading for the pics from heaven, kiki.

We reached Selong Belanak beach. The white sand and blue sky..mmmm , so refreshing.
TIPS: careful there were lots of wild dogs as well, just don't disturb them as they live there, not us.

Selong Belanak Beach

This beach is known for people who wanna have surfing class. They are few surf agency that have surfing packages, boards and instructor. It was such a nice view seeing them trying to surf, fall down and surf again, the happiness at their face when they managed to surf smoothly, well esp when they are cute and hot, miahahaha! :D . TIPS: if you want to learn how to Surf, i recommend u to stay around South Lombok for 1 day so that u can spend one whole day at this beach, learning.

mmmhmmm nice view

We rent a bamboo resting chair at 20000Rp per chair, but cos Sha was very flirty, we got 10000Rp per chair. mmmhmm gotta used the assets, lol.

TIPS: try to bargain for the chair if u can!

The beach boys are cool tho, easy to mingle with. One of the guy said, the land and hills on the left area facing the beach were bought by a Malaysian women, some Datin. She wanna build some resorts there. Malaysians are now buying land in other countries, how impressive.

Before wind

After wind :P
We had a great relaxing time there at Selong Belanak.

Later Pak Juaini drove us to another beach, Mawun. Sweet love of god this beach is stunningly beautiful. Clear blue water, blue sky, white sand. A touch of heaven. They are selling coconut water there, we bought some and rest enjoying the view. We went into the water cos it was so tempting. lol.

fell in love with this beach!
Into the clear blue water we go

#enjoytheheaven

The only downside of this beach is the local selling stuff to u, they come very near u. We kinda check on the weaved shawls and we should not do that. But, we refuse to buy at first. Bella said the one in the complex near the entrance is much more cheaper. But the lady keep on showing us the shawls and said she had take it all out from her bag so we must buy some to help her. Its the begging that i hate. Jenny bought from another seller cos they were sitting in a different place, and this one (another seller) come at us and both sellers started talking a lil, cos it was like 'im here first, these r my customers, sort off'

The lady said 'the price is cheap, she lowered the price more after that and said we will never get this price with this quality anywhere else as the people there have to pay the rent and they don't, so thats why they manage to sell cheaper'.

I bought 2 weaved scarf finally, cos i kinda like the colour of it and it was quite soft the fabric. Its a pity cos i know they're poor. But i don't think u should force ppl like that. But the fabric was good quality yes, the price is around 50,000Rp, the original price is 100,000Rp. She lowered it after around 5-10min .
TIPS: if you dont wanna buy any, dont even look or show you are interested. they will sit beside you, just ignore em or walk away. If you do wanna buy, bargain and buy and walk away, cos honestly they did offer much much much more cheaper than the Sukarare village.

After we enjoyed our time at Mawun beach with lil interruptions from the seller, Pak Juaini drove us to a restaurant for lunch. It was near the Kute Beach area, but not exactly on the beach. All the way there all we can see was the tobacco plantation. Its legal to plan tobacco here, so i guess the people here use that law very well. It was as far as the eyes can see. It was the first time for me as well, seeing tobacco plants.

Tobacco plantations / tembakau

I cant remember the name of the restaurant, but it was a restaurant with a resort hotel. The food was good, if u wanna travel with Pak Juaini, ask him to bring u guys here for lunch. The food was affordable and taste good. The waiter even trying so speak in Malay dialect with us, lol.

Once we filled our tummy, Pak Juaini drove us to Sasak house. Now, Sasak is the native people of Lombok, they were known as indigenous here. They have this houses made of bamboo, very classic i must say.

The entrance

The fee is included in our package, so Pak Juaini settled that. We take a walk around the Sasak Village with a guide (TIPS: it's a must to hire one of em, so just go on with it, give em some tips afterwards),

The name of the village is Rembitan Sade. He said the people here have this tradition of 'kidnapping' the girl that they will marry at night and the next day the guy will go to the girl's house to propose to the family. Weird huh? but yea, it is their tradition. That is where the stories we heard in Malaysia that 'if u go to Lombok you will get kidnapped' comes from. Basically it's the tradition of Sasak people. Maybe some of em wanna kidnap Sha, hahahahhahaha.

hihihi Jijie trying to weave

There was this teenage boy in one of the house looking at Sha and Jijie, and Jijie was like showing her thigh and all, that boy smiled ,got so embarrassed and hide on his bed..hahaha. crazy women they are.

a walking stick, i know..watevaaaaa!

But dont get fooled, most of em do not live there anymore, it's merely the village that they come and sell souvenir and show the tourists how their village truly is. Only few of em maybe still live there. Like some elderly were seeing spinning the wheel for knitting, but it was all just for showing how they used to do it there. They dont say this, but if u r smart enough, u'll figure it out. But it was a good education on their lifestyle.

It's pretty much an educational trail

There were some Buffalo horns inside their house, only one room mostly in each houses. U can walk into some house, just follow the Guide, he will explained to you the area in the house and their customs around the house. It's prety dark inside actually, TIPS: It's pretty much display houses, so dont worry. and yes Flash is allowed for photography.. kiki

inside the house, and that guy in white shirt is our guide

I saw the same weaved scarf i bought at Mawun Beach and that lady was right. It was more expensive at Sasak Village. I bought it for Rp50,000, over here it was sold at Rp180,000. So as i said in TIPS, if u want it at the beach, bargain-buy-walk away. Win-win situation. But the handmade ethnic bracelets was quite cheap at the village, so u can buy it if u r interested.

more souvenirs, they even sell the rocks..yep

We checked out of the Sasak Village and Pak Juaini drove us all the way back to our hotel. It was quite a long drive. We passed by Mataram first. We stopped for toilets as well. There were lots of mosque and Madrasah all the way to Mataram.

one of the mosque

In Mataram City we stopped at this local food store, Oleh Oleh Khas Lombok, Mataram. They have Lombok Coffee which i bought. TIPS: I recommend this store as they have various type of local food from crackers, coffees, kueh, everything locally made. Especially phoenix food

We bought what we want and i got local Lombok coffee, grew here. Yeay!. Azam tried the horse milk, yuck. He felt like throwing up lol.

Kopi Lombok

I was so busy shopping that i forgot to take a pic of the store, sorry!!! .
There were some people selling cheap pearls bracelets in front of the store for souvenirs, like maybe to give to ur colleaguessssss (lots of em :D ). Jenny and Bella bought some, at a different price..hahahaha. That was so funny. Like how can u buy the same exact thing at 2 dfrnt proce from same seller..right :P

I actually wanna go to the art market in Sengigi, but they close at 6PM and we arrive at our hotel at around 6.30PM. sooo.. there goes my plan. Its okay. TIPS: Go before 6PM to the Senggigi Art Market if you want it! It's located in the Senggigi Town

This is the pic from google, btw cos i didn't get the chance to go, huwaaa!

We take some rest at our cozy room in Joje. I think Jijie and Kak Don went to the Black beach for some swim. We went to the Quick chicken as usual that night for dinner, hahahaha. Spend the night enjoying the night at our room, talking, gossipping, camwhoring. lol. It was so much fun!

That morning 5th September, was our last day here in Lombok island. We had our breakfast with Ibu Yuka.

Our last day :(

Pak Juaini drove us to the Bandara Internasional Udara Lombok, Praya, the airport. We checked our baggage with AirAsia and board our plane to KLIA 2. I always bought luggage only on the way back (return), at least 20kg and share it with 1 friend, its easier that way and cost effective.

We arrived safely at KLIA 2 after 3 hours of flight .I will definitely come again to LOMBOK! <3
