Lombok Chapter 3 (Rinjani)

Gili's Day 2 ended and it's 3rd of September 2015, time for some rainforest exploration!

Last night, Pak Juaini confirmed with us whether to visit Benang Stokel or Tiu Kelep waterfalls and we chose Tiu Kelep as its more adventurous, hihihi. That morning as early as 7am we were already headed for breakfast by the beach. That morning was different cos it was Ibu Yuka who prepared us our breakfast!. She prepared the Nasi Kuning, the traditional Lombok cuisine for us. Such a warm and welcoming lady she is. We had a very satisfying breakfast that morning. Yippie!

Our table are ready..
Nasi Kuning!

Pak Juaini waited for us as usual in front of the hotel. Off we go!.  We wore the shirts we bought from the day before, same design different color, class trip! :D hiks!
The Journey to Rinjani mountain was about 3 hours, yepp.. Up the hill, down the hill, round the hill, along the ocean. But the view was great tho. Some of us fell asleep while on our way there too. Esp Sha :D . But the songs from the phone was always our best entertainment along the way.

The view to Rinjani mountain

how can u not love this..
up the hill we go

We reached Rinjani almost around 11am. It was so high, u can really see the valley down there from the registration place. Pak Juaini went and settle our payment for this trip, cos they are entry fees here, bit higher for foreigners of course. The fees plus tour guide into the forest (TIPS: trust me u need this person) is around 150,000Rp each person.

Our uniform! hahahaha . This is the entrance

Rinjani mountain <3

Our guide is a native in the area, you know he walk into the forest just with a slipper. He didnt talk much, more smiling, his boss however, very talkative and explained everything to us. The do's and dont's. Most of us wear shoes, but actually its better if u wear like crocs or sandals that u can tighten around ur feet. TIPS: This will prevent ur feet from getting heavier in the river as the water is very strong.

TIPS: You can also took the hiking package to the top, it involves camping. There's a lake at the top of Rinjani, most hikers love it, if u are one, this is the place.

We started the tour by going down hills, stairs at this area, very big stairs. Then up the hill.. like Batu Caves.  It was easier at first and the stairs becomes more steep and narrow then.TIPS: eat breakfast and make sure you have enough energy to do this, if possible do stretching first. although its simple, it can be very tiring. I had cramps, really.

up the hill!

down the hill!

down more more more!
at this time, still energetic!, beside us is a river, they kinda modified it into a canal

After around 15min or so, we arrived at our first destination, The Sendang Gile waterfall. The signboard shows u have arrived at 2 waterfalls, well actually no, only one. The other one is much more deeper than this.

welcome!

The waterfall is quite high, u stand near to it ull get wet trust me. TIPS: use waterproof camera or cover it properly if u wanna take pics near it.

It was soo laud, the water..hahaha we basically need to speak louder to each other. U can see school kids here still cos the water is not deep, shallow so its safe. Not really the type where u wanna soaked urself tho. We camwhore here and there. hihi.

actually, my hair is already wet this time.
The Gile! Hiks

After around 10minutes, our guide lead the tour again to the next waterfall, Tiu Kelep. Now, this is where it gets tricky. It's deeper into the rainforests, so you need to cross few small rivers, with slippery stones on ur left and right. Its very difficult. So please be careful. TIPS: hold each others hand, so that you will find balance while crossing.

Off we go..

The river

I had to take off my shoes while crossing cos it wont help u when half of ur feet is underwater. Oh and you will get wet. TIPS: bring extra dry clothes & towel.

The water is very strong, we step carefully in and out of the water, u can also see small river streams from top when u crossing the bridge, the view is fantastic! . Its like u become one with nature, hahaha overrla. At the same time we must be careful on our belongings like phone, if it drops into the water..then thats it! which is why i have not much photos while we crossing the rivers. TIPS: wear a sling bag or backpack!

crossing the bridge, u can see the river down there

After all the crossings, we arrived at the Tiu Kelep waterfall, majestic! . It was worth it, trust me. U will feel like its raining, its not actually, the waterfall is tall, thus it feels drizzle although u r not near it.

The Majestic Tiu Kelep waterfall

We settled at one place near a big rock, it was a bit freezing cos the water was cold. We changed, and walk very slowly towards the waterfall for a dip. The rocks is very very slippery, pls pls be careful cos i know u'll be friggin excited. safety first.

Tiu Kelep, here i come!

I had a dip, for about..mmm.. 2 minutes.. hahaha. I cant!, it was sooo cold. damn.. So so cold, like ice water. Few of em had a great time, swimming, dippin etc. TIPS: dont be in the water long if u cant tolerate cold, cos u'll be shivering later.

Lovely time, well.. for those who can stand the ice water :P

Win, cos they can stay in the water the longest, and both wear orange, hiks :P

We had a lovely time here, u have to see it for urself, its an amazing waterfall. We changed into dry clothes after that, but some of us dont really bring any. ,We walk back out in wet pants, useless to change it as itll get wet again. hahahaha.
My slipper accidentally fell into the river, and our guide (i forgot his name, how awful of me), fast reflex get a stick and went to one rock to get it for me without even have to go in. Sha was like 'now thats a local' .. hehehe, he is very experienced, knows this place like its the back of his hand. That's why i said, bring a backpack, easier.

We walked back out, crossing the river and all, BUT, we on the way back, we had to go through a tunnel. Yup, a tunnel that have water in it, the water run fast and there's a few crack at the bottom of the tunner. It was actually quite dangerous. It was dark, if u have a flashlight itll help. TIPS: walk slow and put each step in front of u carefully, feel the ground first, then the next step. cos there might be hole in it and u feet might get stuck or ur slippers/shoes might be carried away by water. U cant really see.

Out from the tunnel! finally.. u can see how dark it is here, it cuts thru the hill.

It was fun tho, new experience, We got out of the tunnel finally, phew! . Back to the stairs and all the way up. tiring definitely. By the time we got out, it was already pass noon. So, we had our lunch at the restaurant there, the same place we registered. We ordered some lunch sets, fish, veggie. There was a lot of dogs tho here, and they're hungry..pity em. We gave em the leftovers & rice, hopefully it will fill their stomach.

That little house there is where we had our lunch

Pak juaini drove us back to the hotel after that. We reach Joje around 5-6pm i guess. We didnt go into our room, but headed to the black sand beach, hihihi. Walk towards the Batu Bolong Temple. We didnt go inside it cos it closes early, so we took photo of it from the beach. TIPS: Batu Bolong Temple is one of the attractions in Lombok as well, go before 3PM if possible cos it closes early to tourists most of the time.

The Batu Bolong Temple

The temple is near to the Public Beach, so u can see lots of locals here. The thing i dont like is they dont really take good care of their environment, its like they dont have a dustbin. They throw rubbish everywhere, the beach, the park, anywhere they feels like it. Especially in Public places like this. On the way back from Rinjani also we can see lots of rubbish on the side of the road. Like 'dont u have waste system and services, or at least dustbin?' .. They need major education in that sense, seriously.

We bought this grilled corn sell by the hawkers along the beach. It was quite nice actually, u can choose original or spicy. The spicy is freakin spicy okay, my lips burn from eating it. TIPS: if u happened to saw the hawkers and wanna try, avoid the spicy if u cant tolerate it.

We got back and rest after that, freakin tired hahaha. Got some nice hot shower and all. That night we went out to the Senggigi town again, dinner as usual at Quick Chicken, hihihi. The cheapest and easiest way to get good food.

To kill time, we hang out at this bar & restaurant called The Paragon. they have live bands. They were talented though. They asked each table where we were from, there was only like 4 tables occupied, lol. The girls group in front of us was from UK i think. The table behind us was 2 guys from Dutch, indonesian colonial masters, kikiki. The lead singer of the band asked em where they're from and that guy said 'belanda' . That is dutch in Malay & Indonesian.

The Paragon, Senggigi

it was okay,,

They sang few indonesian songs that we know, so we sing along..then it was closing. So early. The club inside starts opening at that time, u have to pay for it as usual, clubs. So we decided to head home. Well for me. Bella and the rest went to one club there, where the story was quite hilarious, there was dance off, stupid fashion show and stuff. U can read Bella's blog here . Its written in malay.

Talented band tho, really can sing and entertain the crowd.
This is the other club in front of it, Marina, the one Bella & the rest went to ..hahaha :P

That's pretty much it for that day, i was so tired. Also we requested the mosquito spray again that night from the hotel cos we forgot to put the net down again, hihi. See ya tomorrow for our Sasak Tour !
